Description

EDIT: Gave him a new look for the New DU. I know I haven't used this character much yet, but with all the new changes, I figured it was time for something of a gritty reboot. His previous attire, I believe, made him look a little stuffy, and I believe people ended up getting the wrong impression as to who he was supposed to be. I feel like this new look and weapon give him more of an action hero vibe, which is closer to my original intention for the character. He's mind is still his greatest asset, but he's not just a 'teacher' character. He happens to be a teacher, but he's so much more, and hopefully this new design conveys that.
EDIT 2: Updated the profile to the new template.
EDIT 3: Going from hero to villain, Goyle has a new profile using the villain's template and a new outfit.

For the :icondeviantuniverse:

When people expressed interest in my new gargoyle hero, I doubt that this is what they had in mind. When people think of gargoyles, I think they typically picture fierce fighters. This guy, instead, is more of an academic type. I do love the contrast.

I'll admit, I believe I was largely influenced by X-Men's Beast in creating this character. His design is somewhat similar. His personality will also be very much alike. I'm not too ashamed of this. I love the character of Beast, and I can't say with any certainty that there are a lot of other strong but smart heroic characters in the DU.

He comes from a realm populated by mythical creatures. I'll try to go into more detail about the nature and history of this realm, but in short, it's a realm filled with creatures like gargoyles, dragons, hydras, phoenixes, and other creatures you may have seen in mythology and legends and beyond, even some races that have never even been seen or imagined. This realm is seperate, but connected to the DU. It is very difficult for humans to gain access to this realm, but the creatures of this realm have managed to find multiple ways of getting into the DU, and they've been doing it for a long time. Many mean us no harm, but others have more malicious intent, and it is these creatures that Professor Goyle spends most of his time fighting.

(Note: Just because this realm exists, does not necessarily mean that every character in the DU based on myths or mythological creatures originate from here, or even have any connection. I imagine creatures like dragons could be born in this realm as well as on DU's earth. Though if you feel like having a character of yours originate from this realm, you are more than welcome. Likewise, the possibility of other realms and dimensions means multiple, but distinct realms like this could exist simultaneously.)

Professor Goyle has a deep love for humanity, particularly when it comes to our intellectual endeavors. He appreciates our history, technology, ingenuity, and our culture in general. Though he understands that humanity does have it's faults, he'd still rather be among us humans than among his own kind, whom he views as being largely barbaric and uninteresting.

Humans have, for the most part, welcomed him into their society with open arms. Of course that is to be expected when attending a liberal college. His intelligence is highly recognized by the academic community, and his endeavors to defend humanity from the more vicious members of his homeworld has got the attention of the superhero community.

His intellectual pursuits are vast and varied, and do not only confine themselves to topics of mythological creatures. He's also very knowledgable in physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics, rocket science, mathematics, history of ancient culture, psychology, and french literature. His intellectual curiousity often leads him to studying a variety of other subjects, only allowing his spectrum of knowledge to get larger and larger.

His powers are derived from the fact that he is a gargoyle, and thus possesses gargoyle-level strength, gargoyle flight, and the gargoyle's stone body making it somewhat invulnerable to physical attacks. Though, just like real stone figures, they can still be broken. But these particular gargoyles possess an enhance healing ability, allowing them to repair cracks and chips almost instantly, and can even regrow entire limbs in a matter of minutes. If their entire body cracks up, they can grow a new body in a few hours, but only if the majority of the head remains intact. But if the gargoyle's head were to be destroyed completely, the gargoyle dies. But if just a minor bit of a head is damaged, which is to say less than half, then it can still regrow and heal those portions. As mentioned on the character sheet, gargoyles can't feel physical pain due to their complete lack of nerve cells.

TLDR: He's a smart guy made of stone and he's awesome!

Wow! Talk about a 180! :O

I guess it's true what they say:
You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Personally, I like this!

... But wait, does that mean I'm the villain now, too? :paranoid:
